Tour de Maps is a commercial application for iPad, which has appeared in the App Store in the group of children’s educational applications.
Goal number 1 is to inspire parents’ trust to make this app available to their children. So it had to be both visually attractive, friendly, but also with added value – in the case of Tour de Maps they were tourist curiosities that users will not find in any other guides tourist.
PROJECT GUIDELINES
The application had to interest children. The goal was not only to educate, but above all to provide entertainment – so that the users would use the Tour de Maps as often as possible, and parents would recommend the product to their friends who are also looking for interesting tools for their children. Task – learning through play. App had to be very simple and intuitive at the same time. That children can easily move around in it. Easily go out from a given tab, go to the next one. At the same time – they should spend as much time as possible in the app – so it had to be saturated with content so that the user would not be bored and would discover something new every time.
USER PROFILE
The target group are children who live in the United States, who use the tablet, interested in travel and travel trivia.

RESEARCH / DATA COLLECTION / CONCEPT BUILDING
The work was preceded by an in-depth analysis, allowing to determine what goals and challenges are facing the application and what expectations users will have. At this stage, I have dealt with, among other things, the data collection:
• competition research and trend analysis – what are the most popular applications for children on the App Store / what determines their success / what are similar applications from this segment – analysis / what are the most popular educational games
• what are the areas of interest of children
• the most attractive methods of presenting content for children / in what form should be provided to interest the user – CONSULTATIONS WITH THE PEDAGOGY
• what elements an application should have to inspire parents’ trust
• what colors and typography are recommended in building applications for children

PROTOTYPE AND FIRST TESTS WITH USERS
The prototype and first tests with users were one of the most interesting stages of this project. Layout of objects, readability, placement and length of texts – everything was important here. The application slowly came to light.

DESIGN / PROTOTYPE DEVELOPMENT / FURTHER TESTS
In this step, graphic elements have been refined. In cooperation with the draftsman, all sketches, screenshots and navigation elements were created. Logo ‘made of rock’ refers to the great rocks and canyons – typical of American tourist routes. Everything consistent with the American pop culture – and at the same time – full of tourist curiosities that
surprised the Americans themselves!

FINALN PRODUCT / MONITORING / FEEDBACK / FURTHER DEVELOPMENT
The application has received very good reviews on the international market. Links to instructional video and users reviews:
